Hi there,
Curve balls first. I am sitting in Gloria's Cafe in Moab having my second breakfast while Ralph is hoping to resolve a trailer issue (I clearly got the better end of the deal). Last night our trailer batteries drained completely down. We weren't able to get them recharged by hooking the truck up so we brought them into a Moab auto part store this morning to see if the batteries need to be replaced or if there is another issue that may be less easy to solve. The first battery was successfully charged (not what we wanted to hear) and we are waiting to find out about the second one. We may have to find a place to check out the electrical next. If there is any silver lining, we have a little more time flexibility here as this is one of our longer stops - 4 nights. We had planned on seeing Canyonlands today, so that is up in the air now.
In the meantime, I'll update you on our activities. Arches is a pretty spectacular place. Lots of Arches! The heat has been relentless, 100 degrees or so each day, cooling down to about 70 at night. Our camp hosts told us that there is at least one rescue on the trails every day, usually heat related. It alters our day a bit because we have to hit the trails early and then try to stay cool the rest of the day. Our preference is to get a slower start, relax around the campsite with breakfast and coffee, and then go hiking. But you don't want to be on the trails much after 11:00.
Wish us luck with the trailer!!!
We love our campsite! Very private and surrounded by boulders. Chipmunks keep looking for ways to jump into the trailer. Lots of rabbits and a few deer.Delicate Arch. The tiny white speck in the middle of the arch is me. So much more impressive in real life than the famous pictures of it.A view of Delicate Arch from another arch. This is Double Arch. The tiny people show how massive it is. There was a woman on the trail carrying 2 hoola hoops. Her blog will definitely be more entertaining than ours!Balancing Rock! That thing looks like it is ready to topple any minute. I took this picture after we took a wrong turn going to a wildlife preserve outside Moab (glad we took the wrong turn). Birds were scarce at the preserve.
Welcome to our world with the heat! Extreme heat can mess with car batteries. We never go past two summers without replacing our batteries. Your pictures are great! Of the NPs in that area, Canyonlands was the most difficult for us to do time-wise and not as memorable, though still spectacular, as the others. Good luck with the battery!
ReplyDeleteJaw dropping scenery. How come the people are so teeny tiny????
