Iowa

We are over half way to Maine!!!

Staying in Altoona, Iowa tonight, close to Des Moines.  Warm day, 91.  Third night in a row staying at an RV park and, even though we are away from the freeway and the noise of truckers, we are so ready to get back to a campground.  Our destination tomorrow is Indiana Dunes NP where we will stay two nights and get a much needed rest day.

Our drive today was very pretty.  Iowa has lots of green rolling hills and, of course, cornfields.  We drove by Winterset, Iowa,  the birthplace of John Wayne.

About a mile from our RV park is a FaceBook server farm.  It takes up 2.5 million acres and is costing $1.5 billion to build.  It is creating a lot of jobs while it is being built but once it is done there will be very few jobs needed for the community.

Ralph took a nice photo of a Baltimore Oriole before we left Nebraska this morning.

  2. Were you surprised how small his home was? Did you see the Bridges in Madison County? Did you visit Fons and Porter quilt shop?
