Hi again,
We are in Grants, New Mexico tonight after traveling 950 miles in two days. Last night we were in Sayre, Oklahoma. It has been easy traveling along I-40 so we have been able to make good progress. We will arrive home on Thursday after spending tomorrow night in Needles. It is supposed to be 103 degrees there tomorrow - fitting, I guess, that our last night is similar to our first - very, very hot.
At the Arkansas border heading into Oklahoma, we passed through the town of Y. if you lived there, I was imagining what the conversation would be like when someone asked you where you lived. Kind of like "Who's on first". Midway through Oklahoma the trees gave way to plains. Lots of flies in Oklahoma and that has continued since then.
Speaking of flies, I spotted a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher at our RV Park in Oklahoma, a stunning bird about 14 inches long with a scissor-like tail about eight inches long. Wish we could have brought him along with us. We could have kept him fed with all the flies that were in the truck.
In both Oklahoma and Texas, nobody was wearing masks. In New Mexico, everyone is wearing them.
We stopped at Cadillac Ranch right outside Amarillo, Texas. 10 cars have been buried part way in the ground along the freeway. Apparently the thing to do is bring a can of spray paint and add your own graffiti. The paint was pretty thick on the cars. Was a fun stop along the way.I guess things really are bigger in Texas. A 72 ounce steak??? Why not just order a whole side of beef? I wonder what you have to buy in order to get the free steak.
Hard to believe that you're already almost home: what an amazing journey!
