4 Corners and Beautiful Deserts

 Greetings from Moriarty, New Mexico!

The last two days have been very good, mostly good driving conditions and good weather. They were two beautiful days driving through the scenic Southwest desert.   Yesterday was a very long day, 400 miles that included some very bumpy roads that slowed us down.  We drove 70 miles on old route 66 which was much more scenic than the 40 freeway.  We discovered that not all of Arizona is on standard time.  We stayed last night near Four Corners in Arizona and were on daylight savings time.   We have been very happy to buy gas for $4.20 a gallon.

Today was a shorter travel day, 300 miles after visiting Four Corners in the morning.  We crossed the continental divide about 100 miles from Albuquerque.

This morning we visited Four Corners or not.......  Apparently, the true Four Corners is 2 1/2 miles east of the monument. Visiting Four Corners has been on Ralph's bucket list and we weren't able to visit it two years ago as it was closed due to COVID.  It was beautiful and quiet when were were there at 8:00 AM, but as we were leaving, cars were starting to pile in.   The second photo was taken by accident but I thought it was cool, so I included it here.

Here are a few scenic photos from our drives yesterday and today.

Last night was our second night at a Harvest Host.  No frills for sure and no Wi-Fi or cell service.  You realize how dependent you are on it when you don't have it.  It was a very convenient location, just a few miles from Four Corners.  A woman about our age from South Dakota was also staying at the trading post in her truck and camper.  She has been on the road since September and was headed up to Alaska for eight weeks.  She usually drives a 40 foot fifth wheel but didn't want to take it to Alaska so she bought the truck/camper just for this trip and will sell it when she gets back.  She was very impressive.

Tonight we are staying at a brewery in Moriarty, New Mexico along with nine other travelers.  We are finding that the Harvest Host locations are popular.  It is a fairly barren area but grassy and Western Meadowlarks are singing away which is wonderful!  On to Lubbock, Texas tomorrow!
