Hi from a very warm and humid Austin!
We spent the day in downtown Austin. Since we were only going to spend one day there we took a double-decker city bus tour in the morning which was great. The city is large and it was a great way to see the major sites. Austin is a thriving, growing city as evidenced by the many skyscrapers under construction. We learned lots of historical facts about the city. We drove by the state capitol, the LBJ presidential library, the café where LBJ and Lady Bird had their first date, the University of Texas (the Longhorns), and many more great sites. Our afternoon was little more exciting than we would have liked, but I'll tell you more about that below.
Photos of the Austin skyline, LBJ presidential library and the state capitol in that order. We had lunch at a famous restaurant called Ironworks BBQ. This was Ralph's, mine wasn't as interesting. Glad we went early as the line was out the door when we left. Or if want to have your lunch delivered....
After all of the above, our afternoon got "exciting":
This occurred a half a block from us. We were across the street in a Hilton Hotel to use their Wi-Fi so that I could participate in a PathPoint Finance Committee remote meeting after lunch. When we came out an hour later, the street was taped off with a dozen police cars with lights flashing blocking the street. Apparently it was a drug deal that went bad and one man shot and killed another. We were shocked that we didn't hear any sirens. We took a wide berth around the area and walked around the city a bit, but we were definitely a lot less comfortable after that.

Thought I would end on a positive note. There are Cardinals everywhere in the campground and these flowers are so pretty.
Yikes! Enjoying your pictures.
ReplyDeleteWell, you two know how to live on the edge! It's probably best that you didn't hear a thing and stayed indoors until it was all over. Austin is a very cool town so it must be great fun to explore. Once again, your photos give your stories such depth! Love it all!

Sounds like Austin is an exciting place. And delicious. You were meant to be in that hiding place when the shooting happened. Keep living the good life.
ReplyDeleteBtw, the Cardinal and flowers were so pretty. Saw the baby kites being fed today by mama by telescope. So fun.
