Well, we finally made it to Austin this afternoon, the fifth day of travel in a row and over 1800 miles, which is a lot when pulling a trailer. We usually try to not have more than three travel days in a row so we knew the beginning of our trip would be a long haul. We finally have two nights in one place and are staying at a beautiful state park on the south side of the city. After this, we won't have more than two travel days without at least one rest day.
It was an easy, but long day of travel and the skies were clouded over all day. Fortunately, the dust and wind were gone by the time we reached Austin. But boy did we see windmills on our drive. They were in the fields near the freeway for about 150 miles. I suppose those were the ones that froze in 2021.
The weather is heating up and becoming more humid. Tomorrow will reach 86 and the low will be 66. We will be spending the day touring Austin.
Our campsite is huge! Lots of trees, which is probably necessary because of the hot summers. The birds are chirping like crazy, especially the Cardinals, who are not as shy as some of the others so we see them frequently while sitting at our campsite. Two photos of McKinney Falls State Park. The top photo is the falls, not quite the falls we are used to on the west coast. But the park is really beautiful and I wish we were going to stay another day.A view of the windmills from the car. This was our view for 150 miles. Amazing. When driving through Sweetwater, they had "Welcome to Sweetwater" painted on a windmill propeller that was sitting on the ground next to the road and it was BIG. There was plenty of wind to keep all of the windmills going.
Greatings from your picklebball friends in SB. Love reading the updates.
