Mont-Tremblant National Park

 Bon Jour!

We have spent the last two nights in Mont-Tremblant (Mon-Tremblan).  We are slowly learning when you pronounce a "t" and when you don't.  It is a very popular year-round park about 90 miles northwest of Montreal.  We have a nice, spacious campsite with very few campers.  We have had no significant rain here, but cloudy and drizzly the whole time.  In a few weeks the trees will explode in color and on a sunny day it will be gorgeous.

The rate of exchange in Canada is great, 1.33.  But you lose all of that with higher prices and a 15% (!!!) sales tax rate.  Gas is about 70% more expensive than Maine and even more than Californians are paying, at 6.08 for regular.

Today we are heading west to Algonquin Provincial Park (similar to our state parks), about 270 miles southwest, through the Canadian capital of Ottawa.  Originally we had planned on staying there two nights but we are starting to chase the sunshine a little (also run from the rain) and only staying one night.  This way we will have a beautiful, sunny day to see Mackinac Island!

This is the village at the ski resort.  There are lots of ski-in, ski-out condos.  We had some great French Onion soup here.  The ski mountain vertical drop here is 2,116, about 2/3 of the vertical drops in Western US ski resorts, so you can get plenty of good skiing in here.

Ready for our hike on the second-to-last day of summer in my down jacket, beanie and gloves. I was able to take them off about 1/2 mile into the hike.  I did optimistically wear my sunglasses.

The beautiful lake at the summit of our hike.  It was, unfortunately, foggy and drizzly at the top.

Stunning flock of Canada Geese flying in formation overhead, making their well-known calls.

  1. Wonderful photos, bringing back memories. I ski'ed at Mt Tremblan many years ago, and it was THE COLDEST PLACE I ever ski'ed. We had warm-up groups in the morning, and it was hard to even get the blood moving. Fun, though...just staying in motion. Looks lovely...including the Canda geese that are actually in Canada (rather than taking permanent residency in MA)
