Great Basin NP (continued)

 Hi,

We had a wonderful day in Great Basin yesterday.  The weather has continued to be sunny and warm.  The Aspen trees are in full color and are truly beautiful.  We took two great hikes, one around two alpine lakes and the other along the mountain streams near our campsite.

Today we drove almost 400 miles along Highway 50 from east to west Nevada.  The highway boasts being the loneliest road in America and we agree.  Our entire drive was barren and dry.

Tomorrow we will drive a short 100 miles to visit my cousin and family for the day.  It will be another long day on Tuesday heading home, more than 400 miles.  It will be bittersweet getting home.  While it will be wonderful to be home and see our California family and friends again, our wonderful journey will have come to an end....until the next one.

These were all taken on our hike.  As I was looking over the photos, they were almost all of the Aspen trees and their beautiful yellow color.  The highest point of our hike was over 10,500 feet.

A photo with no yellow!  This is one of the lakes we hiked along.  They water was very low because of the time of year.

This was taken on a viewpoint along the road.  Wheeler Peak is over 13,000 feet high.

Just one more photo of yellow Aspen trees.  This was taken from the truck as we drove up from the campground to start our hike.  It was a stunning drive.
